Groundskeeper

The Fort Wayne Housing Authority is seeking a dependable and hardworking Part-Time Groundskeeper to help keep our communities clean, welcoming, and well‐maintained. This role is essential in supporting FWHA’s mission to provide quality housing and meaningful services to residents throughout Fort Wayne. Pay is $17/hour.

Key Responsibilities

This role includes the following duties, with additional tasks as assigned:

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of shared indoor spaces, including lobbies, offices, community rooms, restrooms, and laundry areas.
• Use FWHA’s work order system to accurately record materials used, job codes, and time spent on tasks.
• Sweep, mop, buff, and wax floors to ensure safe and attractive common areas.
• Keep outdoor areas—such as grounds, parking lots, garbage sites, and hallways—free of litter and debris.
• Empty trash receptacles in designated offices and common areas on a regular schedule.
• Perform seasonal grounds maintenance including raking, weeding, trimming, and general landscape care.
• Assist with winter weather tasks such as snow shoveling and applying salt to walkways.
• Properly care for and maintain all tools, equipment, and motorized machinery used in grounds and custodial work.
• Interact respectfully and professionally with residents, staff, and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Support FWHA’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
• Collaborate with team members and assist with additional duties as needed.
• Represent FWHA in a positive manner and help promote awareness of our programs and community impact.
• Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One (1) year of custodial, maintenance, or groundskeeping experience preferred.
• A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and meet FWHA vehicle insurance eligibility requirements.

Technical Skills

• Ability to operate a variety of hand tools and grounds/maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
• Willingness to learn new tools, processes, and software systems as needed.
