Today on Conversations, Melissa is joined by J. Schuyler Sprowles to discuss the rise in religion in young Americans. We are seeing a surge in religious faith among teenagers and young adults. Over one third of young Americans considered themselves to be deeply religious 5 years ago. This number is increasing and a recent Pew Research poll showed 48% of young Americans regard themselves as deeply religious. Why is this? What is causing this surge?
J. Schuyler Sprowles is author of the newly released and critically acclaimed book, “The Young Samaritan’. Sprowles, a former television reporter, says much of the surge in faith among young Americans is the result of an increase in Christian fiction and entertainment. All of this is leading to a great awakening among younger Americans. In “The Young Samaritan,” Joshua, a Samaritan teenager in ancient Samaria, embarks on a life-changing journey amidst Jesus’ early followers. Joshua faces adversities and discoveries that shape his path to maturity and faith. Set in historical biblical times, the story vividly portrays Jesus’ impact through Joshua’s eyes, appealing to both young and adult readers, believers and non-believers alike.
