Today on Conversations, Melissa Montana welcomes Author Judy Henderson. Judy Henderson was wrongfully convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Instead of succumbing to despair, she turned her sentence into a purpose. While incarcerated, Henderson earned her GED and paralegal certification, initiated programs connecting incarcerated mothers with their children, and became a powerful advocate for women’s rights and prison reform. Her efforts contributed to landmark legislation in Missouri, which recognized battered women’s syndrome as a legal defense. After 36 years of perseverance and faith, Henderson was granted a pardon in 2018. Her release marked not just freedom, but also a hard-earned victory. Today, she dedicates her knowledge and experience to serving others through Catholic Charities and advocating for criminal justice reform. As a sought-after speaker and activist, she shares her inspiring story of hope and redemption, all while cherishing time with her two children, nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Her extraordinary journey from wrongful conviction to transformative leader proves how a single voice, even from within the prison walls, can spark lasting change. Judy’s new book When the Light Finds Us: From a Life Sentence to a Life Transformed will be released April 15th!
