Brant Hansen talks about how one can become numb to lying and what negative effects come from it. Once you start lying enough times, the human brain becomes numb to lying. It’s like any other habit where once you develop it, you start to get used to doing it more and more until the brain considers it normal. With lying, our brain becomes numb to it by cauterizing the act into justifying it, like when you lie to “protect people”, because you’re afraid of their response, or some other reason. More often than not, however, becoming numb to lying means that we’ll have to lie to ourselves.
In this post, Brant Hansen breaks down the term “cauterizing” and how that can hinder a person’s judgment. He goes over how cauterizing leads to numbing our understanding and how we can become numb to lying.
