A Hope Center is actively seeking to hire 1-2 Part-Time staff nurses to work at its S. Calhoun location

Job Description: Staff Nurse

Objective of Position:
Staff Nurse to assist the executive director and nurse manager in carrying out leadership and supervision for medical services. 

Reports to:  nurse manager and center director

Works in cooperation with: center directors, staff advocates, volunteer nurses and volunteer advocates

Supervises: volunteer nurses

Hours required: 14-31 hours. May include an occasional Saturday shift, as needed.

The applicant must be a committed Christian who has and demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, faithfully attends church and participates in Bible study.

Strong commitment and dedication to the sanctity of human life and sexual purity
Agreement with and willing to uphold the Statement of Principle, Statement of Faith, Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, and policies of the center
Experienced leader, teacher, and manager/administrator
Highly skilled in interpersonal communication with versatile counseling skills
Spiritual leadership, discipleship, and encouragement skills
Self-motivated, dependable, responsible-sees tasks through to completion with little to no supervision
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, with capacity to learn the data-base client program, Waycool
Licensed, registered nurse in Indiana
CPR certified
Ability to uphold the strict guidelines of client confidentiality, regardless of outside relationship or knowledge of client


1.     Patient Care (Includes oversight and support of  volunteer nurses in providing same patient care)

Review client records to insure appropriate medical forms are completed
Provide general education on medical topics related to pregnancy, pregnancy options, and STIs
Provide pregnancy test intake interviews and STI testing intake interview with clients when volunteer advocates are not available
Review client Health History forms and provide education and referrals when warranted
Perform urine pregnancy test protocol using best practices
Perform STI testing and reporting per protocol using best practices
Dispense prenatal vitamins and positive test verifications
Arrange and provide client follow-up
Assist in Waycool data entry, as needed
Handle medical-emergency phone calls and in-house medical emergencies by referring to an emergency room, 911, and client's personal physician with further action taken (such as CPR) under the direction of the volunteer medical director

 2.     Leadership/Administration

Task Groups: Serve on task groups according to personal talents and ministry needs
Volunteer Management
Supervise volunteer nurses in cooperation with nurse manager on nursing issues and direct non-nursing issues to center director
Participate in making prayer as an integral part of the day-to-day operation of the center
Complete yearly evaluations of volunteers as requested by center director or nurse manager
In the absence of center directors, or staff advocate, fill the needed role, performing vital administration tasks such as volunteer schedules
Assist in monitoring medical practice at assigned center to ensure quality control, reporting concerns and conferring with the nurse manager regarding any medically-related problems and questions that arise


Assist the nurse manager in presenting medical topics for pregnancy resource ministry at the bi-annual new volunteer training seminar
Work one-on-one with volunteer nurses and advocates for initial and ongoing training as needed
Communicate with volunteer nurses and advocates regularly to update and reinforce new and current policies
Assist and attend the nursing staff meetings and stay abreast of best nursing practices and procedures at A Hope Center
Assist as necessary in the quarterly volunteer in-service planning and execution

Other Leadership Responsibilities

Attend staff meetings and required ministry events and quarterly in-services
Represent A Hope Center in public venues at the delegation of the executive director and/or board of directors

 3.     Continuing Education

Submit to regular continuing education on best practices for limited-medical pregnancy services
Comply with state and professional continuing education requirements
Take annual CPR refresher course

Evaluation: The staff nurse receives a yearly written and oral evaluation by the nurse manager, with input from the center director.
