Interpreter for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Richmond Community Schools is hiring an interpreter for the deaf and hard of hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Proficient in American Sign Language.

Be present, on time and ready to work.
Perform duties of a Special Education Paraprofessional.
Facilitate communication for hearing impaired students through a variety of means including expressive receptive American Sign Language, Signed Exact English, or Total Communication skills.
Participate in pre-service and in-service training programs.
Communicate positively with staff, parents and students.
Adapt to differing needs of students.
Follow daily schedule and perform duties as determined by the teacher of students with hearing impairments.
Understand the needs of students as described in individual education program.
Understand hearing loss and its impact on communication, academic, and social skills of students.
Assist students with academic needs in the classroom according to teacher(s) direction.
Assist in supervision of students at restrooms, in cafeteria, on playground as directed by teacher and/or principal.
Demonstrate sensitivity and patience with students.
Respect dignity of students in all situations.
Understand the use of hearing aids and assistive technology and ensures equipment is functioning properly for students.
Other related duties as assigned.

Job Type: Part Time

Experience/Certification Required:
Experience with American Sign Language, Signed Exact English or Total Communication skills.
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Education Level: Associate's Degree
Career Level: Entry

Contract:  186 days per school year
Starting salary:  $19.03 an hou
