Setting An Example For Youths

Chip Clark's office has black and orange walls. A basketball is on the floor next to the coat rack.

There are awards, newspaper clippings and pictures of his family. But Clark is quick to point out that the office isn't his. It belongs to all of them.

Clark is area director for Urban Ministries, now known as City Life. A department in the national organization Youth for Christ, it focuses on empowering urban youth with leadership skills and helping them change their community. It provides a free after-school program for youths ages 11-19 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. weekdays.

The organization, which has offices at 3701 S. Calhoun St., is in the middle of a campaign called Life to Our City to expand its operation in Fort Wayne.

“We believe that we've hit on something,” Clark said. “We believe that we've hit the attention of young people.”
