Lisa Hollister - Bike Safety
Warm weather brings bicyclist out on the road. Both bike riders and car drivers need to take preventitive measures to alleviate bike accidents. Lisa Hollister, Director of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, Parkview Trauma Centers, tells listeners that the number one safety tip for bike riders is to wear a properly fitted bike helmet. It is also important to make sure bicyclists are visable to traffic. Wearing bright colored clothing and making sure bikes have reflective lighting is essential.
Car drivers and motorcyclist need to make sure they are at least 3 feet from bicycle riders. When passing a bike on the road, car drivers need to make sure they move to an outside lane. Never pass a bicyclist in the same lane.
To help promote a healthy lifestye and the arts, Parkview Health will be hosting a month long community celebration of bikes and the arts. Events include: Fort4Fitness Bike Tour, Bike to Work Day, Bike to School Day, Tour de Fort, and Blessing of the Bikes, to name a few.
