As parents and children prepare for the start of a new school year, there are a lot of things to consider. Adrianne Kartholl, Clinical Nutrition Specialist at Parkview Health doesn’t want parents to forget about the importance of preparing healthy lunches and snacks for their children. Adrianne points out that getting kids involved in planning and preparing their lunches and snacks will help in getting them to eat healthy. Allow elementary aged students to pick out some raw veggies or pretzel sticks to put in a small Ziploc bag. Another tip is to get pre-portioned fruit cups packed in water instead of syrup, and to purchase individually packed unsweetened applesauce.
