The Meltdown Winter Ice Festival is an exciting weekend event in Richmond, Indiana focused on a thrilling tour of custom ice sculptures, impressive ice fights, lively winter activities for all ages, and so much more!
The MELTDOWN THROWDOWN will be January 26 & 27, 2018 at Elstro Plaza!

Keep your cool—the Meltdown Winter Ice Festival is almost here! This year, Richmond, IN is going to knock your socks off with our biggest, iciest meltdown ever! Throughout the week, kids and adults of all ages can enjoy fun activities like coloring contests, Lego contests, a charity chili cook-off, and more! And don’t forget the main attraction: the carvers! Each year we bring in world-class ice carvers from all over to come and compete for your icy affections. Join the thousands of people who have witnessed the incredible Meltdown Throwdown—a live ice-carving competition where YOU decide what the carvers create and who carves best! The Meltdown Winter Ice Festival in Richmond, IN is sure to melt your frozen hearts this January!


Meet an Ice Carver: Tuesday: Watch an ice carver in action at Morrisson-Reeves Library from 3:30-4:30pm! See how chunks of ice are beautifully hand-crafted into an artistic ice sculpture! Sip on hot chocolate, ask questions, and even get an autograph at this FREE event!

Family Fun Zone: Wednesday-Saturday: The ice carvers are going to create an Interactive Ice Park – just for fun!The whole family can enjoy the ice in the Family Fun Zone. During previous years, this area included an ice slide, a ping-pong table, a skee ball game, and more! What will the carvers create for the festival this year?!This area will open as soon as the carvers are finished! Make sure you get to try this fun area out before the Meltdown finishes! We suggest checking it out before or after the Chili for Charity or before the Mega Meltdown Throwdown!

Chili for Charity Cook Off: Thursday - Help us heat up the Meltdown Festival and support your favorite charities from 5:30-7:30pm at Morrisson-Reeves Library! Join us in a fun and delicious way to warm up and sample the best chili served by local celebrity “chefs” while supporting your favorite charities. Proceeds help fund non-profits in Richmond and the Meltdown Winter Ice Festival. Bottomless Bowl tickets are sold at the door for $10.

Frozen Fairy Trail: The Frozen Fairy Trail on Saturday from 11am-3pm will take you on a magical journey to find whimsical fairy dwellings. Start your journey at the Old National Road Welcome Center, then explore the other magical locations across Richmond!

MELTDOWN THROWDOWN: Friday & Saturday. The People’s Champion Throwdown will be located at Jack Elstro Plaza (47 North 6th Street). We’re putting our world-class carvers on the spot! Audience members will choose what the carvers create. Then, two carving teams will battle it out in three 15-minute rounds. You’ll see chunks of ice form into your very own audience suggestion!
